Some perpetrators of abuse know that what they're doing is harmful, but choose to do it nonetheless. Some engage in illegal behaviors such as assault, be it verbal or physical. Some missionaries are sexually assaulted or raped.
LDS Missionaries, like all human beings, deserve to be treated with dignity. Unfortunately, due to the choices of others, not every missionary experiences that most basic level of common decency. With tens of thousands of LDS missionaries in the field, the odds are that every day at least one is being abused. Not all abusive behavior can be stopped, but that's not an excuse for knowing individuals like us to stand by and do nothing.
Why Would a Missionary Abuse Another Missionary?
Sometimes the offending missionary likes to think he's a great practical joker. Others convince themselves they're only involved in some good-natured "hazing" of a new missionary. Quite often, however, the way missionaries are treated crosses the line. Missionaries can be abused.
